Beth is chairing the effort to develop an ICOSSE sustainability label

ACHEMA 2012 will be the 30th International Exhibition Congress on Chemical Engineering, Environmental Protection and Biotechnology. With nearly 4000 exhibits it is the premier exhibition for the chemical, environmental and biotechnologies processing industries. Sustainability is taking hold along the supply chain with these companies, exhibitors and suppliers. Companies are offering technology products, processes and services that they profess to help improve the sustainability. Yet how would a potential customer on the supply chain know which to visit, or consider to improve their sustainability impact?

AIChE and DECHEMA will develop and offer the “International Certificate on Sustainable Standards for Engineering (ICOSSE)” at ACHEMA and other conferences run by AIChE and DECHEMA. The ICOSSE certificate will be based on will be offered in recognition of the sustainability of a product, process or service as provided. The certificate will be based on the credible AIChE Sustainability Index (sm). In this regard:

  • A questionnaire will be developed that relates to the Sustainability Index.
  • Exhibitors will submit an application with information on the product (s), service(s), or process(es), they are exhibiting that they wish to have sustainability recognition.
  • An advisory board will develop and evaluate the applications and determine which products , processes, and services should receive the recognition at ACHEMA.
  • The certificate brand mark, logo will be displayed at ACHEMA and on a dedicated website; the product, process or service such designated will remain on the website until the next ACHEMA when a reapplication will be needed.
  • The website where the certificates will be maintained for 2 years.
  • A pilot program to test the label will take place in 2nd half 2011
